Meeting Council’s procurement needs *

NSW Supply, a business unit of the Department of Public Works and Services, is an experienced and professional procurement organisation with extensive experience in meeting the needs of the public sector. This expertise is readily available to Local Government and allows Councils to better focus on serving their ratepayers and reduces the hassle of administering contracts.

In May 2001, the Local Government and Shires Association of NSW and the NSW Department of Public Works and Services (NSW Supply) formalised a strategic alliance to benefit Councils in NSW through the delivery of focused and flexible procurement solutions.

The scale of the supply contracts organised by NSW Supply, allows Local Government to leverage off the buying power of the biggest purchasing organisation in the State.

It is estimated that annual contract price savings of $396 million are achieved by consolidating purchasing through NSW Supply contracts.

NSW Supply contracts represent outstanding value for money, both in terms of item costs as well as transaction, logistic and management costs. The whole of government contract price is on average 10 per cent lower than wholesale price and up to 50 per cent lower than retail price.

NSW Supply not only offers products and services on period contracts, but also the development of client specific or ‘one-off’ contracts.

These contracts are customised to the exact needs of the client. NSW Supply has developed QICSTM (Quick Information Contract Search) an electronic catalogue containing item specifications and accessories, price and price histories, supplier details and contract notes.

QICSTM is available through the Internet at www.qics.dpws.nsw.gov.au or in CD ROM format.
