Assembly heads to Alice Springs

As part of 2002 The Year of the Outback, next year the National General Assembly of Local Government will be staged in Alice Springs from 10-13 November.

Alderman Dave Elliot, President of the Local Government Association of the Northern Territory, together with Alice Springs’ Mayor Fran Erlich and Deputy Mayor Jenny Mostran outlined to delegates preparations for next year.

“The Year of the Outback is an opportunity for regional and rural communities to showcase our lifestyle, heritage and attributes,” Mayor Erlich said. “Our new 1,200 seat Convention Centre will be finished in March, and as the heart of the centre we have extensive accommodation available. You can choose to sleep in a swag through to five star luxury.”

Deputy Mayor Jenny Mostran encouraged delegates to come a few days earlier or stay over after the Assembly as there is much to see and do in the ‘Heart and Soul of the Centre’.

“We can promise you a fun and unique experience,” Mayor Erlich said. “We hope to see everyone there next year.”
