New Career Connections (NCC), www.careerconnections.com.au, a not for profit New Apprenticeships recruitment website spearheaded by RMIT University and Australian Local Government Training (ALGT), is set to change the way job vacancies are advertised in the Local Government sector, and potentially other sectors nationwide.

Under this strategic partnership between RMIT and ALGT, at no cost, Local Governments are able to advertise all their traineeship and apprenticeship vacancies on the New Career Connections website.

New Career Connections, Australia’s only New Apprenticeships recruitment website, was launched in June 2000. It is committed to promoting the image of the New Apprenticeships scheme as an alternative to tertiary study.

Since 2000, it has advertised over 7,000 positions and its pool of registered jobseekers has exceeded 7,700. There are currently over 1,000 Victorian jobseekers using the service.

“This agreement is a win win situation for both parties,” said Alan Montague, RMIT’s Manager Traineeships and Apprenticeship. “ALGT gets to offer its members a real service which can provide significant business savings, and the opportunity to market their business activities to a highly defined audience of motivated jobseekers through the site.

“NCC benefits through being able to offer our jobseekers more exclusive positions, targeted services, and more support information. ALGT’s national footprint will also enable New Career Connections to expand its services across Victoria and, in time, interstate markets.”

Nick Crosling, CEO of ALGT, said that the agreement has great benefits for the Local Government sector.

“It will enable Victorian Councils, and Council groups across Australia to advertise their New Apprenticeship positions – effectively eradicating this business expense, in addition to promoting entry level employment opportunities and ensuring a steady supply of jobseekers to positions in the Local Government sector,” he said. “The agreement also provides ALGT with a platform to promote its outdoor work opportunities with Councils, who will take advantage of the operational works pathway recently endorsed by the Australian National Training Authority, which is part of the National Local Government Training package.

“The management of the training package is the responsibility of the ALGT board, which is a partnership in training for the Local Government industry. The board’s membership comprises industry representatives from the Australian Services Union, Australian Local Government Association and the Local Government Managers Australia.”

NCC will assist ALGT in the promotion of the package through the marketing potential of the website and extended activities.
