Council initiated the Coffs Best Value program to reduce costs and improve productivity across the organisation. A project team was formed in the 2000/2001 financial year, with representatives of a broad range of Council operations.
Facilitators were appointed to help identify strategies for reform, and training began in 2000/2001. The goal was to achieve savings, revenue gains or productivity improvements worth $1 million in the 2000/2001 financial year. This was achieved, and the Coffs Best Value project has now been expanded.
Projects range from service oriented initiatives to improve communications and relationships with the community to efforts to cut operational costs, through mowing programs and more efficient use of plant and other resources. The program is now highly effective through the involvement and commitment of all staff.
Coffs Best Value was one of the projects that contributed to Council’s win in the AR Bluett Memorial Award for 2000/2001.
