Sandy Hollway AO will give the keynote address, Leadership Through Innovation, at LGPro’s 2003 Annual Conference. To be held at Melbourne Park Function Centre on 20 and 21 February, the conference is set to attract hundreds of Local Government professionals from throughout Victoria and interstate.
During his address Sandy Hollway will draw upon his extraordinary career, which has included roles as varied as CEO of the Sydney Organising Committee for the Olympic Games (SOCOG), Chief of Staff to former Prime Minister, Bob Hawke, and several diplomatic postings.
Other key speakers during the conference include the following.
- Minister for Regional Services, Territories and Local Government, Wilson Tuckey, on The Future of Local Government
- NSW Rural Fire Service Commissioner/CEO, Phil Koperberg, speaking on Leadership in the Community
- Member for Wannon, David Hawker, Chair of the House of Representatives’ Standing Committee on Economics, Finance and Public Administration, who will discuss Local Government and Cost Shifting
- International authority on customer service, Steve Simpson, on Unwritten Ground Rules – Creating a Culture of Service.
In addition, scores of professionals from Victorian Councils will speak on topics including human resources, managing diversity, marketing/PR, environmental sustainability and waste management. Other highlights of the conference include a Great Debate, which Local Government ‘notables’ will debate the proposition Regional Government – The Way of the Future? Adjudicated by Peter Lucas of Macquarie Lawyers and Strategists, the debate promises to be entertaining, with colourful performances by all involved.
The Gala Conference Dinner will feature Keith Scott, the Brian Fitzgerald Band and the presentation of the LGPro Excellence Awards.
A new and exciting feature of the 2003 Annual Conference will be a Future Leaders Forum to be held on the final afternoon. Facilitated by Helen Woods, principal of The Strategy Team, this highly interactive and informal session is designed for the talented and aspiring younger members of the sector, their mentors and current leaders. The objectives are to examine the nature of leadership, identify leadership attributes and the practice of successful leaders, and to explore possibilities for the future.
