Monitor and maintain

Amskan Ltd have recently introduced a range of asset management tools, which will be of considerable interest to Local Government managers responsible for local road and footpath quality and construction maintenance and management. The Amskan IRIS-2000 is a portable, self contained instrument for measuring the International Roughness Index (IRI) of existing road assets, or of newly completed road construction work.

The IRI is the accepted measure for the surface roughness or ‘rideability’ of a pavement or road, and is widely considered the most important indicator of its condition. IRI measurement has been considered something that only experts can do. The Amskan IRIS-2000 instrument changes that, with all the measurement and processing being completed automatically.

The IRI appears as a result on the inbuilt screen, allowing anyone to use it.

This information is essential for Local Governments, which have the responsibility for managing and maintaining a large proportion of Australia’s road network.

Amskan has also developed a range of vehicle mounted systems using laser technology, which can collect IRI at highway speeds. The number of lasers can be specified by the authority or contractor to meet their requirements and budget. The IRI system’s rugged construction and unique sliding action across the measurement surface allows fast, continuous and accurate operation.  Its innovative design, incorporating the sliding articulated beam together with inbuilt powerful software analysis, ensures repeatable IRI measurements.

All around the world there is a strong movement towards IRI with emphasis being given to measuring and maintaining road smoothness. As it incorporates the global standard for measuring road quality, Amskan’s IRIS system is ideal for providing Local Government authorities with the tools to ensure good road quality and maintenance.
