Spotless scrubs up

Last December, Melbourne’s Bayside Council announced that Spotless Services Australia Limited was the successful tenderer for its Street Cleaning Contract which began on 1 March. Listed on the Australian Stock Exchange, and as one of Australia’s largest service providers employing over 30,000 people, Spotless now looks after Council’s road sweeping, and inspecting and cleaning drainage pits and litter traps.

It will invest over $400,000 in new equipment to ensure that Bayside is provided with the latest technology in the service industry. In addition to sweeping Bayside’s roads, Spotless will also manage Council’s drainage pit cleaning program, inspecting and cleaning Bayside’s 15,000 drainage pits on an 18 month cycle.

Environmentally friendly litter traps will also be maintained, ensuring stormwater is efficiently and effectively drained from the city’s streets and roads, and minimising litter being washed into Port Phillip Bay.

“We are confident that Spotless Services will provide a first rate cleaning service, and ensure that Bayside remains both environmentally and aesthetically gratifying,” said Bayside Mayor, Ken Beadle.“Litter traps and drainage pits play an important part in reducing the amount of waste that goes into our waterways and it is vital that they are properly maintained.”

Council selected Spotless after an exhaustive tender process, based on services standards and cost efficiency. Spotless has an extensive client base within Local Government, providing cleaning services for municipalities including the Cities of Melbourne, Yarra, Whitehorse and Glen Eira.

“This is an exciting win for Spotless,” said National Business Development Manager, Stuart Rose. “We have a long relationship with Bayside, having managed Elsternwick and Brighton Golf Courses since 1997, and having acquired Bayside’s Civil Infrastructure and Tree Maintenance contracts last year. This appointment underlines our commitment to providing quality services to Bayside, and to Local Government.”
