Standards based GIS

Councils and Water Authorities in NSW and Victoria are turning to Open Spatial for standards based Geographic Information Systems (GIS) to better manage their spatial data. Open Spatial provides spatial solutions based on Oracle, Autodesk, MapInfo and other OpenGIS compliant technologies with emphasis on intranet and Internet delivery.

Already more than ten authorities are using the company’s MunSys application, an integrated suite to maintain and manage their spatial and attribute data. Each MunSys application incorporates rigorous business rules and integrity checks for cadastral, drainage, roads, sewer, water and electricity projects.

For Councils and utilities, the system simplifies the maintenance and management of spatial data and ensures the accuracy and integrity of data. It integrates corporate systems, existing GIS and asset management systems, allowing the various applications to share the same data. Database driven, the MunSys is also easy to use, with GIS data controlled centrally, allowing enforcement of data standards and eliminating the risk of islands of duplicate information.

For Tamworth City Council, MunSys helped maximise its investment in AutoCAD by making use of the existing skills of internal staff. MunSys was selected for its ease of use and its depth of functionality. These are key benefits for organisations looking to save both time and resources allowing valuable work to be done on other projects.

Open Spatial are hosting the Launch of their new software MunSys 9 and their inaugural MunSys User Group meeting at Taree on Wednesday 30 July.

Delegates of the 2003 NSW Water Conference, from 31 July – 1 August, may join the site visit of MidCoast Water’s installation. To register go to www.openspatial.com.au/news or visit www.openspatial.com.au.
