ASF working with Councils

A brochure on the Australian Sports Foundation (ASF) and its work supporting the development of sport through sporting and community organisations has been made available to Councils through this edition of Local Government FOCUS. The Australian Sports Foundation Ltd is a company established in 1986 by the Commonwealth Government to ‘support the development of sport in Australia’.

It can offer an avenue of tax deductibility to incorporated, non-profit organisations that are keen to register and undertake a fundraising campaign to develop a sports project.

How does the ASF do this?

The ASF is listed in Division 30, Section 30–90 of the Income Tax Assessment Act. When projects register with the ASF, unconditional donations made to the ASF are tax deductible. Donors can nominate an approved project as their preferred beneficiary. The ASF can issue discretionary grants to active fundraising projects six times per year.

Who benefits?

Your project, the donor and Australian sport all benefit. Since 1986, grants totalling in excess of $80 million have been made to Australian sport.

Can any other sports organisation offer this?

No, the ASF is the only organisation listed in the Sport and Recreation section of the Income Tax Assessment Act that can offer this benefit.
