Food and wine

The menus of many Orange restaurants are made up of fresh local produce. Local food and wine make for a fine dining experience and will leave a lasting impression on your palate.

There are a number of cosmopolitan cafes, fine dining and family restaurants in the city and surrounding areas. Restaurants include authentic Japanese, Thai, Chinese, French, Italian, Indian and Australiana just to name a few. Due to the fertile volcanic soils and mild climate, Orange has the perfect conditions to grow a variety of produce including grapes, apples, berries, stone fruits and nuts.

Orange also has the ideal climate to produce excellent cool climate wines. From pungent Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay with restrained complexity and richness to fine reds with juicy freshness or berry flavours, the Orange Region has it all.

Orange district boasts over 20 wineries offering cellar door facilities where wine tasting is available on weekends, public holidays and during the week at selected wineries by appointment. An Orange Region Wine Trails brochure is available from the Orange Visitors Information Centre. Each Autumn, Orange hosts F.O.O.D week, a celebration showcasing local food and wine. The 8-10 day celebration features over 35 endorsed events ensuring F.O.O.D Week offers something for everyone. Feature events include the farmers markets, a pub grub competition, chocolate workshops, the annual F.O.O.D Week dinner and the signature event – F.O.O.D Affair.

October to April is berry picking season, and with a variety of berries being grown in the area, picking is a great activity for the whole family. It certainly is a delicious way to spend your time!

With such variety on offer, Orange is known as the place to enjoy world class culinary delights.
