Toowoomba City Council believes it has built Queensland’s first Spacenet – a wire mesh climbing jungle that is 5.8 m high and 13 m wide. Parks and Recreation Playground Manager, John Clancy, said the creative play equipment combined traditional playground structures with imaginative, modern design.
He said the Spacenet, designed by German company Corocord Raumnetz, offered an unlimited number of designs, shapes and colours. It is made from galvanized steel mesh that is wrapped in polyamide yarn and arranged so that children can always find a hand and foot hold.
John Clancy said safety was a key feature of the equipment.
“Safety is of paramount importance when choosing play equipment so Corocord’s safety record was very encouraging,” he said.
Council chose the 3144 Spacenet, which tests children’s climbing, reflexes and balance and stimulates their curiosity to play, climb, jump and swing. Council is considering adding a flying fox, jumping mats and other features to the Spacenet in the future.
