The City of Sydney’s 2003 New Year’s Eve will feature two spectacular fireworks shows, including the brilliant midnight Sydney Harbour Bridge display.
The Sydney Harbour shows will held at 9pm and midnight. Considered one of the most spectacular fireworks displays in the world, it will feature 80,000 pyrotechnic effects to music, with fireworks exploding up to one kilometre high.
The Harbour of Light Parade, a flotilla of magnificently lit tall ships and charter vessels, will cruise the Harbour between the 9pm and midnight fireworks shows. The traditional celebrations, staged by the City of Sydney since 1996, attract more than a million people and are broadcast on national television.
Artistic Director, Leo Schofield, has been reappointed following last year’s successful peace theme, but the 2003 theme remains a secret until the night. The show is free for the public viewing from more than 20 harbourside vantage points. It will include a new display, called City of Light, with leading Australian artists transforming Sydney’s famous buildings into canvasses splashed with colour and image.
The City of Light display will run every night for nearly three weeks as part of the Sydney Festival.
