Residents of Fremantle in Western Australia will soon have access to a comprehensive e-payment system for all Local Government services. Scheduled to be in operation by April, the system will allow the people of Fremantle to pay for almost anything electronically, either online or by phone.
Residents and ratepayers have been able to pay their rates and infringements in this manner for the past few years but now other types of payments can be made including out-of-school care, debtors’ invoices and meeting place bookings.
Information Technology Manager, John Pavy, said it was simply a matter of calling the relevant business unit, discussing the person’s needs, finalising the transaction and then being put through to the credit card payment gateway.
“People will be issued with a three-digit numeric service code, which allows the system to know which business unit should receive the income,” he said. “It’s all done in just one phone call, so people can instantly get the service they need and make the payment at the same time.
“So irrespective of whether you live in the area or not, this reduces the need for a trip into the Council offices. This new e-system is all part of providing greater efficiency for Fremantle clients by making the process much simpler and convenient.”
