Ashfield Council has approved the phasing in of a new type of street sign throughout the entire Municipality. The Lifesaver signs by Streetsigns Australia indicate the addresses of houses on both sides of the street and which way the numbers run.
The system has been successfully trialed for eight months with Council deciding to adopt the signs following positive feedback from the community and emergency services organisations.
“These new signs will help people and emergency services personnel find street addresses quicker and could be the difference between life and death,” said Ashfield Mayor, Mark Bonanno.
The Fire Brigade, NSW Police, NSW Ambulance Service and the Accident Research Centre at Monash University all commented favourably on the signs.
The signs work like this. The number on the sign is the next address in the street, the number in parentheses indicates the next address on the side opposite the sign and the wedge shows the direction the numbers in the street run.
The signs will be installed throughout the Ashfield Municipality as part of Council’s regular maintenance program during the next three years.
