New approach to caravan park management

With increasing numbers of self drive visitors, particularly people in campervans, Council’s four caravan parks are an important part of its tourist strategy. Family holidays to the Shire have always been very popular, with a high demand for caravan park sites and more recently, self contained cabins.

Located on water fronts or across the road, Councils four parks are ideally located. But with increased competition, improving the standard and quality of caravan parks is a key goal for Council. People now expect more facilities such as TV rooms, barbecue areas, camp kitchens and a range of children’s activities. With customers’ needs paramount, Council is aiming to exceed expectations so people will return and tell others about the great time they had.

In response to rising demands, upgrading work has been completed on one park and concept plans are being prepared for the remaining three parks. Improvements include creating more functional park layouts, ensuite sites and higher standard cabins. It is not just improvements, the concept plans include the surrounding area and other environmental aspects including the vegetation, recycling services, water and energy saving devices.

Council has engaged Australian Tourist Park Management (ATPM) to manage its parks. A professional caravan park management company with 20 parks across Australia, ATPM provides procedures and advice to raise the profile of the parks in a very competitive industry. It assists with professional marketing advice and where best to advertise, brochures and a web site, procedures manual and relief managers.
