Set yourself apart in Local Government

Graduate education for professional development

Monash University Graduate School of Business (GSB) offers a range of graduate programs for people to improve their career skills. The GSB’s Department of Management offers courses that cater for a variety of interests and career aspirations. These courses attract people from all three spheres of government, as well private sector businesses and industries, and the not for profit sector.

Public Policy and Management is particularly relevant to Local Government as it focuses on understanding changing expectations about government, ways in which services are delivered, and the skills needed by effective leaders.

The range of courses include management, HR and IR, international business, and diplomacy and trade. Study options are flexible enabling a balance with work and family life. On campus courses are run at Monash’s Caulfield campus, but many can be studied off campus. All can be studied on a part time basis.

The Department of Management strives for excellence in its research and teaching. It has the experience and resources of over 80 academic staff. Courses stress workplace relevance and provide a sound theoretical and practical base for developing and assessing management options. Courses can be studied at Masters, Graduate Diploma, Graduate and Executive Certificate levels providing flexible entry and exit points. A pathway to a masters degree based on relevant work experience, among other things, is the Executive Certificate.
