Casey Fields – Our Fields of Dreams

Casey Fields, also known as Casey’s ‘Fields of Dreams’, is a 70 hectare site in Cranbourne East currently being developed to feature a broad range of premier active and passive sporting and recreation opportunities to be enjoyed by thousands of people of all ages.

Sustainable development features, with a focus on water sensitive urban design and sustainable water use principles will be embodied in all aspects of this major sporting facility. Surface water run off will be captured, treated and retained onsite through a network of swales and wetlands. Recycled water will be pumped from the South Eastern Treatment Plant to the site for irrigation.

Construction of Casey Fields is well underway. The City of Casey has allocated $4.15 million in 2004–05 and has also received a $500,000 grant from Sport and Recreation Victoria to complete stage one.

A strong partnership effort between the City of Casey and the community has resulted in an exceptional masterplan for the site that includes:

  • a Victorian Football League (VFL) oval and stadium
  • four football/cricket ovals
  • ten soccer pitches/rugby fields
  • 12 tennis courts
  • six netball courts
  • an athletics track
  • a golf driving net
  • criterion cycling track.

Casey Fields will also provide for extensive passive recreation opportunities through the development of:

  • a dog obedience area and a dog ‘playground’
  • more than three kilometres of walking and cycling trails
  • a large district playground
  • a village green, which is open grassed area and can be used for informal ‘kick about’ spaces and community events
  • a picnic node centred around a lake
  • a series of wetlands
  • large tracts of woodland.

The initial three ovals, together with associated pavilions and parking, are scheduled to open in March 2006.
