Casey has partnered with a number of businesses and education providers to develop a ground breaking education initiative. It is aimed at developing a number of programs which will enhance the technological skills of young people and creating long term employment opportunities. This initiative, known as ICE (Information, Communications and Electronics), has the potential to enhance secondary education curriculum across Victoria.
Over $350,000 was recently committed by a number of key organisations to provide the equipment, software and tools required to train students in the processes and skills used by new age manufacturing industries.
This latest program, known as The Regional Technology Skills Centre proposal, is being developed in partnership with the Narre Warren South P12 Secondary College.
Now in its fourth year, the ICE initiative has been extended to include a number of 3-Dimensional design subjects, giving secondary students the opportunity to design a variety of structures, such as a bridge, stadium or power station using industry standard software. The program will also address a serious shortfall in trained 3D operatives. In previous programs, organisations such as Motorola and Cisco systems have been key providers and partners in the ICE program Casey won the national award for the ICE program in the 2001 National Awards for Innovation in Local Government in the category of Business and Regional Development.
