The City of Joondalup has won the Australasian Local Government Management Challenge, ahead of a strong field of contenders from each State and a New Zealand winner. The Australasian final is held in conjunction with Local Government Managers Australia’s National Congress.

Joondalup makes this two wins in a row for Western Australia with Fremantle taking out the Australasian award last year Finalists in 2005 include Hastings Council (NSW), Thuringowa City Council (Qld), Glenorchy City Council (Tas), a combined Prospect and Unley City Councils team (NT &SA), Latrobe City Council (Vic) and Southland District Council (New Zealand).

In the 13th year of the Challenge, this unique professional and leadership development program was once again very popular. A total of 121 teams registered involving some 700 individuals.

“The program enabled us to learn about ourselves as people and as a team,” said Joondalup’s Team Leader, David Murnain. “CEOs in any doubt about entering a team will find that their Council is repaid many times over.”
