Children’s services awarded high accreditation

The Huon Valley outside school hours care program has recently undertaken its initial phase of accreditation assessment, resulting a high quality rating across all areas. The Cottage Child Care program has also scored a rating of high quality in its latest round of accreditation assessment.

The assessment is a three year cyclical process reflecting Huon Valley Council’s Children’s Services’ commitment to continuous improvement. Located south of Hobart, some 140 children are involved in the programs during any given week.

The quality of program practices are evaluated by consulting with staff, parents and children within the programs.

The practices are measured against quality indicators outlined in the Quality Improvement and Accreditation System and Outside School Hours Care Quality Assurance programs. These measures are then validated by a member from the National Childcare Accreditation Council (NCAC).

“These excellent results reflect the hard work and ongoing commitment of Children’s Services staff who have undertaken regular training and self reflection to enable the programs to achieve a high quality care environment for the children and families using the programs,” said Huon Valley Council’s Children’s Services Programs Manager, Jacqui Brooksbank.

The assessment programs are Commonwealth Government initiatives administered by the NCAC and are linked to the funding of childcare programs and their relevant legislative operational funding.

They are designed to provide services with guidelines for self improvement and evaluation of their care and management practices.
