Redcliffe cleans up at Queensland Tidy Town awards

The City of Redcliffe, located in south east Queensland, has been named Queensland’s Tidiest Town for 2005 over 211 other entrants. Queensland’s Attorney General and Minister for Justice, Linda Lavarch, presented the award in September at the Ergon Energy Tidy Towns 2005 State Awards in Brisbane.

Keep Australia Beautiful Council Queensland CEO, Kylie Johnston, said Council and community work together to make the City a wonderful place to live, work and play.

“Redcliffe has been a consistent performer in the Ergon Energy Tidy Towns program and has entered the competition every year for the past 22 years,” she said. “As well as being home to almost 50,000 people, Redcliffe plays host to more than 750,000 tourists each year.

“The City boasts beautifully landscaped and litter free streetscapes and beaches, excellent cultural and community facilities and enthusiastic and friendly local residents of all ages who have played an active role in making their town a winning community. This years finalists have set an incredibly high standard and each year the benchmark gets higher.”

Redcliffe Mayor, Allan Sutherland, said being named Queensland’s Tidiest Town was a fantastic achievement for the City.

“This award speaks volumes about the strong sense of community spirit that exists in Redcliffe,” he said. “This title is something special and represents a true team effort involving the Council, local residents and community groups as well as Council’s large and extremely dedicated team of volunteers.”

Mayor Sutherland said Council highlighted its commitment to creating a better city by establishing an advisory board dedicated to Tidy Town issues.

“We now intend to do the rest of the State proud by lifting the bar and putting our best foot forward at the national titles,” he said. “All Redcliffe residents can be proud of this achievement, our City and their own contributions towards improving the local lifestyle.”
