Providing optimum services now and into the future

By Mayor Marilyn Baker

For the City of Playford, financial sustainability is about ensuring we are in a position to provide the best possible services for our ratepayers now and well into the future. I am proud of the significant developments that have been undertaken so far, such as a rejuvenated library, function centre, Council Chambers and the commencement of a major swimming and gymnasium centre and a community musical centre.

Council has also played a lead role in the revitalisation of the Elizabeth Regional Centre that has created significant employment opportunities, particularly for youth. This was also the first significant step towards regenerating community pride in the City of Playford following the amalgamation of two previously financially unsustainable Councils.

Looking to the future, I am excited about the developments planned for the region, in particular the recently announced Playford North Urban Regeneration Project, the most significant development project in metropolitan Adelaide. But it is vital that we engage the community in all of these projects to ensure they fully understand the impact of financial sustainability on their daily lives.

I commend the LGA (SA) on their efforts to inform Council elected members and staff of this important issue and look forward to working together with all Councils to achieve long term change.
