Over the past four years, the eastern Sydney municipalities of Woollahra, Randwick, Waverley and the Botany Bay have joined forces to help year 12 students prepare for their Higher School Certificate examinations. All Year 12 students in these municipalities are invited to attend lectures featuring leading experts, university lecturers, journalists and senior examination markers. Students are given information and study tips for key subjects and are encouraged to ask questions about problem areas.
The lectures covered a range subjects, including HSC English, business studies, general maths, ancient and modern history and legal studies. Sessions also covered stress management and effective study tips.
With 22 secondary schools across the region, the four Councils’ libraries have pooled their resources to run the lecture series. Lectures are staged at the libraries and in Council Chambers.
The cost for students is $5 per session. This year 13 sessions were staged during June, with each having a minimum of 40 participants.
Woollahra Deputy Mayor, Marcus Ehrlich, said Council was proud to be involved in such a valuable educational program.
