Mayor Paul Tracey said …

Randwick City Council has made outstanding progress in the last year, initiating major changes in the way Council operates and in our achievements and improvements for the residents and the whole City of Randwick. All the work we have done is underpinned by the Council’s unwavering commitment to customer service.

Winning the A.R. Bluett Memorial Award this year was a very proud moment for all Councillors and all the staff at Randwick City Council. I pay tribute to our staff at Randwick – it is their dedication and hard work which has contributed to our progress, to our achievements and to our success.

Council staff have embraced rapid internal change and continue to demonstrate a commitment to accountability, transparency and service to our community. Many of Council’s major projects and initiatives are carried out over several years and it is together as a Council that we have transformed the way Council operates and achieved these major improvements for our residents.

We have focused on getting the basics right for residents, by building, maintaining and cleaning the City’s infrastructure and amenities, and remained true to our vision of ‘a sense of community’, by building community cohesion and strengthening our social fabric as well.

The Council has succeeded in planning for a sustainable future and engaging our community in our decision making processes. Through the Randwick City Plan, our strategic blueprint for the City, and the alignment with the priorities and actions in Council’s annual Management Plan, our community can clearly see how and when Council is fulfilling its 20 year vision.

Even with all the initiatives and the extensive work we have undertaken, Council remains debt free, has a long term financial plan, and, despite having a low revenue per capita base, has been recognised in New South Wales through the Bluett Award as achieving outstanding progress compared to other Councils.

Randwick Council has a mounting tally of awards won over the last 12 months, testament to our extensive efforts in environmental sustainability, long term strategic planning, to our aquatic centre and library services.

In 2006, Randwick won three awards at LivCom, the esteemed international awards competition for liveable communities and just recently we won the Local Government category of the national Banksia Environmental Awards.

It is truly a pleasure to be Mayor of this progressive and dynamic City.
