Rockhampton City Council has developed a film program to educate and entertain residents of Central Queensland, with films to be shown at the Walter Reid Cultural Centre.
Council’s Arts Services division is aiming to generate wide ranging public interest by screening a variety of different films. Foreign language films will be shown alongside Hollywood classics. Children’s films are to be shown during school holiday periods.
Chair of Rockhampton Community Services Committee, Councillor Rose Swadling, said the screenings will be accompanied by other initiatives to ensure the success of the program.
“Council’s Arts Services offer a dynamic film program ranging from regular screenings of various genres, to a local short film competition and festival, to film making workshops,” Councillor Swadling said. “Council’s film program really does have something for everyone.”
The Walter Reid Cultural Centre boasts a flexible venue that includes a 125 seat air conditioned auditorium, with a full size cinema screen.
Projecting formats include 16mm, 35mm DVD or VHS, with the option of full Dolby surround sound.
There are also rooms available for workshops and master classes.
The centre was upgraded after a $3.3 million development funded through the State Government Regional Centres Program in 2003.
