Innovative Census data solutions*

The 2006 Census of Population and Housing provides detailed Demographic data for Australia down to Collection District (CD) geographic level. This assists in decision making processes of government and business, including the planning and administration of our Shires and Councils.

After consulting with the Australian community, the ABS developed a new and improved Census product range, offering greater flexibility in obtaining data to meet your statistical needs. Census DataPacks are an addition to the innovative 2006 Census product suite, providing you with a greater amount of information for more detailed analysis.

Census DataPacks are a CD-ROM product containing all the 2006 Census Community Profile Series data, which includes:

  • Basic Community Profile (people, families and dwellings)
  • Place of Enumeration (key characteristics based on where Census respondents were counted on Census night)
  • Indigenous Profile (characteristics of Indigenous persons,
households and some comparisons with the non-Indigenous
    population)
  • Time Series Profile (enables comparisons of persons, families
and dwellings data from 1996, 2001 and 2006 Censuses)
  • Expanded Community Profile (comprehensive profiles
such as relationships within a family, living costs and
    dwelling structures)
  • Working Population Profile (key characteristics of working
    population data).

DataPacks are priced at $115 and include Community Profile Series Data (in CSV format) and digital boundaries (in .Mid/Mif and ESRI.shp formats), making it easy to import into your existing database or analysis system.

To order Census DataPacks simply email client.services@abs.gov.au or call 1300 135 070 to discuss your information requirements with an ABS Information Consultant.
