Women in the workplace*

Celebrating 20 inspirational years

Diversity and equality, leadership, salary gap, workplace culture and flexibility are themes of the 20th Women, Management and Employment Relations Conference to be staged in Sydney on 24–25 July 2008.

With the theme, ‘Celebrating 20 Inspirational Years’, the conference is presented by the Labour-Management Studies Foundation and Macquarie Graduate School of Management at Macquarie University. It provides an audit of key issues confronting women in the workplace. Sessions are interactive, explore practical solutions to issues, and provide wonderful networking opportunities.

Leading speakers include Sharan Burrow, ACTU; Air Chief Marshal Angus Houston, AC, AFC, Chief of the Defence Force; Dr Wendy McCarthy, AO; Minister for the Status of Women, Tanya Plibersek MP; Ann Sherry, AO, Carnival Australia; and Dr Anne Summers, AO. Maxine McKew, MP will deliver the keynote dinner address.

“I am delighted to support the 20th Macquarie University Women, Management and Employment Relations Conference, which is the leading workplace relations conference for women in Australia,” Maxine McKew said. “In 2008 the conference will coincide with a fresh push to increase participation by women in the Australian workforce. The leadership shown by Macquarie University on this issue has always been critical.”

Topics for discussion include Advance Australia Fair; Who Cares? Managing Flexibility in the Workplace; Grabbing the Patriarchal Tiger by the Tail: Is This the Way to Go?; Women’s Pay: Why the Gap?; Leadership is Women’s Business; and Getting the Culture Right.
