Robert Ball is a qualified Local Government Clerk and is currently General Manager of Hornsby Shire Council, having commenced in 1992. He started his career in Local Government in 1964 and has been employed previously by Rockdale and Waverley Municipal Councils.
Robert has a Bachelor of Commerce, is an Associate of the Australian Society of CPAs and has a Bachelor of Business (Land Economy). He has been a recipient of the Local Government Association Albert Mainerd Scholarship in 1983, and toured Japan, the United Kingdom and the US studying entrepreneurialism in Local Government. In 1994, he was awarded the Federal IMM (now LGMA) Management Exchange to attend the SOLACE Conference in London.
Robert has studied city management in the US following attendance at the 1995 and 1996 Conferences of the City Managers’ Department, League of California Cities and the 1996 International City Management Association Conference in Washington DC.
In 2005, he was awarded the prestigious Baton Prize for outstanding leadership in local sustainability practice in the General Manager category.
Robert has also been the President of the former Institute of Municipal Management (NSW Division).
Hornsby Council is one of the leading Councils in New South Wales in the area of sustainability and natural resource management.
Robert’s leadership and his recognition of the community’s expectation to better manage its natural resources has meant that Hornsby is now recognised as a leader in this field, not only in New South Wales, but across Australia.
