Implementing change to meet the needs of local people

In 2005/2006 Auburn Council reviewed its organisational structure to enable the modernisation of service delivery to make it more responsive and tailored to offering best value to the Auburn Community. This review resulted in an organisational structure that responds to the unique challenges of Auburn and one which places a reliance on leadership, commitment, attitude and teamwork.

Auburn Council has implemented a range of initiatives and organisational change to ensure it achieved the following aims:

  • meeting benchmark industry timeframes in the determination
    of developments
  • applying competitive tendering to achieve specified levels of
    service at the best price
  • reviewing and implementing policy manuals and delegated
authorities to improve processes and achieve improved accountability
  • develop and implement an integrated planning framework to
ensure that programs and initiatives are completed successfully
and to prepare for future growth
  • develop and implement a 30 year financial model
  • develop asset management plans.

Auburn is continuing its change process and has recently introduced working parties run by staff members to develop and implement plans that will improve the effectiveness and the efficiency of the organisation.

Working parties have been established to improve:

  • training and development
  • customer service
  • internal communication
  • financial management
  • recruitment and induction
  • leadership development.

To complement this process, an Industrial Psychologist and business culture change specialist has been engaged to assess the organisation and implement changes.
