In February, two City of Melville staff members were recognised for excellence in finance at the Western Australian Local Government Managers Australia (LGMA) Finance Professionals Conference.
Council’s Senior Management Accountant, Debbie Whyte, and Financial Accountant, Khris Yeoh, were recognised for their successful introduction of a new accounting package, as well as their proactive approach in clearly communicating financial information, when they each received the LGMA Finance Achievement Award.
The LGMA Finance Awards formally recognise the significant contributions made by Local Government Finance Professionals to the Western Australian community and the Local Government finance sector.
The awards have two levels – the Achievement Award and the Young Finance Professional Award.
A maximum of five recipients can receive the Achievement Award each year, selected from the talent pool of finance staff in Western Australia’s 139 councils.
This year, three awards were presented.
Melville CEO, Dr Shayne Silcox, said it is fantastic to see Debbie and Khris receive formal recognition for their extraordinary efforts.
“We are proud to celebrate their successes and their commitment to excellence,” he said.
Khris Yeoh said that receiving the LGMA award was a great honour.
“Receiving formal recognition like this is really motivating,” he said. “It has validated our efforts and inspired me to grow even more in the finance area.”
The third award went to Stuart Billingham, Deputy Chief Executive Officer at the Shire of Coorow.
The Young Finance Professional Award winner was Tanya Browning, Deputy Chief Executive Officer at the Shire of Dundas.
