Change begins in your own backyard

Community facilities play a critical role in Moreland’s overall objective to cut greenhouse gas emissions.

Neighbourhood houses, libraries, kindergartens and other civic buildings devoted to community use are a great way for Council to lead by example and show people how to become resource efficient.

Sustainable design or retrofitting of Council buildings also delivers energy and water savings to ratepayers.

Through Moreland’s Sustainable Small Facilities (SSF) project, Council’s property services and sustainable development teams have been involved in constructing a building audit and rating tool. It will be used to update and inform Council’s building operation plan, which details the 10 year capital works agenda for property services.

So far, 15 buildings have been audited, with works completed at a number of sites.

Moreland’s SSF audit and rating tool will be made available to all Councils when it is completed.
