Late last year, Zero Carbon Moreland was launched as the first major plank of the Moreland Solar City project.
In the first quarter, 508 households, 11 businesses and three community groups signed up. Sixty household audits were undertaken and workshops are underway to teach people how to install energy retrofit items in their homes. These include draught proofing, light bulbs and clear comfort insulation.
The project aims to have 5,000 households, 500 businesses and 50 community organisations reduce their emissions by 20 per cent by 2010, with an ultimate goal of zero carbon emissions by 2030.
In March, a bulk buy solar power offer attracted almost 200 Moreland residents to an initial information session, and to register their interest in the project.
