The City of Onkaparinga’s forward thinking approach to managing risk for Council events has been recognised, with Council recently receiving the Local Government Association of South Australia’s (LGASA) risk management incentive award for its event management procedures.
The award, which was in recognition of Council’s Event Management Guide, is one of two awards presented annually by the LGA Mutual Liability Scheme to councils that have developed a risk management initiative seen as best practice and having a broader application across Local Government. The judging panel noted Council’s extensive consultation with relevant stakeholders and demonstration of the short and long term benefits of the guidelines.
City of Onkaparinga Mayor, Lorraine Rosenberg, said Council runs a variety of events, from awards functions and festivals, to the Southern Christmas Pageant, exhibitions and tree plantings.
“Events like these bring our communities together and help achieve our aim of creating strong, vibrant communities,” she said. “Council’s award winning Event Management Guide demonstrates our community leadership in this area and will ultimately minimise issues that could lead to a civil liability claim.”
The City of Onkaparinga’s Event Management Guide was developed in 2008 in response to a recommendation from the LGA Mutual Liability Scheme’s Risk Management Review.
The LGA Mutual Liability Risk Management Awards were introduced in 1999 to reward innovative and best practice approaches to risk management.
