New entertainment and convention centre makes business dealings a pleasure

In its opening two weeks, Prime Minister Kevin Rudd stepped foot on its freshly laid carpets, rock sensation Jimmy Barnes took to its stage and acrobats winched themselves to the ceiling to allure the audience at Mackay’s biggest dance party to date.

With an impressive client mix and a range of events for people of all ages and backgrounds, the Mackay Entertainment and Convention Centre (MECC) is bringing an exciting variety of visitors to the region and offering the best in class and sophistication.

National conferences, iconic entertainers, a sporting fixture or two, weddings, trade shows, local dinners and banquets already fill the MECC’s booking calendar, while national trade magazines for the conventions and meetings industry are tipping Mackay to become the new hot spot.

On 11 July, MECC joined the Mackay Regional Council Civic Precinct. This $29 million state of the art facility is equipped with the latest audiovisual technology, world standard acoustic systems, contemporary décor and excellent front of house facilities. Also within this refined hub is Artspace Mackay, an award winning regional art gallery, the boutique café Foodspace, one of the region’s six libraries and the Council chambers.

The MECC can be arranged to suit almost any requirements and offers many versatile spaces including a 1,090 seat theatre, 100 seat studio space, two plenary halls, foyers, bars, breakout rooms and extensive backstage amenities.

Set in manicured tropical lawns of the Mackay Civic Precinct and located within the Mackay CBD, the MECC will comfortably accommodate your needs.
