Trail links townships

Baw Baw Shire Council has created the Two Towns trail linking the townships of Drouin and Warragul and encouraging walking and cycling as an active form of transport. The 7.5 kilometre trail is a fully sealed, three metre wide concrete path.

Each end of the trail features a major community park, with facilities such as BBQs, toilets, playgrounds, car parking, signage and links to other walks.

Highly visible from several high traffic roads, the path is a clear statement of Council’s commitment to a healthy lifestyle for residents. It is designed to:

  • attract commuters and
    recreational users
  • provide access to people
    from different socioeconomic backgrounds
  • provide access to all abilities
  • link future residential
    development and public transport
  • link to existing and planned
    infrastructure around
    schools.

The trail provides a safe, off road cycling path between the two main towns.

The largest subdivision in Baw Baw’s history is in the planning stage. This area is situated along the trail and will contain a home display village, mixed business area, potential large entertainment complex and extensive wetlands. Up to 3,000 people will become residents of this subdivision.

They will be linked to walking and cycling paths to reduce reliance on individual transport, thus improving their health.

The project was recently recognised as a Victorian State category winner and receiving a National high commendation at the National Heart Foundation Awards in 2009.
