Mayor’s message

The City of Bayswater represents a vibrant, multicultural community of around 56,000 residents and over 2,000 businesses.

As a Local Government, we pride ourselves on the quality of customer service that we provide, our willingness to innovate and our ability to deliver cost effective programs and initiatives that contribute to the quality of life of all who live, work and play within our city.

In my view, what really distinguishes our city is its strong sense of community. We deliver a wide range of programs aimed at developing and supporting the community and we are proud of the diverse range of services that we provide for our young people, families and seniors.

The City of Bayswater places great emphasis on the quality of our built and natural environments. Indeed, the quality of our streetscapes, myriad green vistas and over 160 parks and reserves have contributed to our reputation as the Garden City.

We have stewardship of over ten kilometres of Swan River foreshore, which represents a great leisure and recreational resource for our community and visitors alike. The City’s foreshore includes the pristine Riverside Gardens – home to regionally significant events such as the Avon Descent finish line and Autumn River Festival – and the Eric Singleton Bird Sanctuary nature reserve.

Our strategic location and great transport links to Perth’s CBD, Perth International Airport and beyond, makes the City a great location in which local businesses can thrive and grow. That location and its excellent transport networks have attracted significant developments, including the Centro Galleria Shopping Centre in Morley.

Centro Galleria is one of the State’s largest retail destinations serving a main trade population in excess of 250,000 potential shoppers. Other exciting retail and tourism developments are currently underway, including the 20,000 square metre Coventry Square Markets development.

We have partnered with a number of key stakeholders, including the State and Federal Government’s to progress a range of developments to provide a great future for our city.

Whether it is the transit oriented development underway around our rail stations or the redevelopment of our town sites and the Morley strategic centre, the City of Bayswater is well placed to meet the challenges of the future.

Terence G Kenyon JP
