The Australian Meals on Wheels Association celebrated National Meals on Wheels Day on 25 August 2010.
At the City of Bayswater around 50 volunteers support the Meals on Wheels service.
Each year, these dedicated men and women deliver over 31,000 nutritionally balanced, two course meals to elderly and infirm clients, which enables them to continue to live independently in their own
homes.
“Our volunteers represent a friendly face that helps to make a real difference to the lives of those receiving the meals,” Mayor Kenyon said.
At the City of Bayswater around 200 volunteers help deliver various services to the community.
These range from driving the community bus to the Books on Wheels service run by the City’s libraries, Good Companion groups, social support programs, walking groups and the Bayswater Leisure and Information Service for younger disabled people.
