All systems go in 2010

2010 has seen a number of long awaited major projects get underway throughout Mildura Rural City. Identified as key community priorities and with the potential to bring important benefits to the region, Council is excited to be bringing new and improved facilities to the area.

Langtree Mall

A $4.2 million project to redevelop the retail and business hub of Mildura’s CBD commenced in October this year. The long awaited upgrade is focused on improving the aesthetics, amenity and safety of the precinct, providing a pleasant and accessible community space for residents and visitors alike to enjoy. Key components of the project include removal of existing structures and furniture within the Mall, excavating, stabilising and leveling the surface, repaving the entire area and installing new furniture, shade structures, trees and landscaping.

Mildura Arts Centre Theatre

An exciting project to redevelop Mildura’s arts and cultural precinct commenced at the end of 2009. The first phase includes an $8.7 million upgrade of the Mildura Arts Centre Theatre, which will focus on providing increased seating, more stage space and versatility, extra wing space, improved occupational health and safety standards, sufficient back of house facilities, car parking and amenities as well as new reception and administration areas and connections to the rest of the arts centre precinct.

Bicycle End of Journey Facility

Construction of an end of journey facility, designed to meet the needs of those using two wheeled transport has commenced. The environmentally sound structure will feature 40 high security bicycle lockers within a secured locker room. Toilet and shower facilities will allow riders to freshen up at the end of their ride. A bubble tap will also be installed so cyclists can refill their drink bottles before embarking on their return journey. Council secured a $183,000 grant from the Department of Transport to put towards construction of this facility.
