Some of this municipality’s smallest communities are taking big steps towards ensuring their futures as part of Council’s Community Planning process.
Merbein, Murrayville, Underbool, Walpeup, Ouyen, Red Cliffs, the Millewa and Nangiloc/Colignan have detailed Community Plans, which capture the ideas and visions people have for their particular town.
From improving the local economy and attracting tourists to getting people involved and increasing local services, the Plans are as varied as the people who helped put them together.
And far from being bureaucratic documents that just capture dust, Community Plans are put to good use by providing a strategic starting point for seeing real changes in these smaller communities.
Many exciting projects including town markets, personal development workshops, and even a skate park have come about as a direct result of the Community Planning concept.
Currently the people of Irymple, Nichols Point, Mildura East and Cardross/Koorlong are getting into he Community Planning action and are set to develop plans of their own as Mildura Rural City Council continues to work with local communities to enable them to become more sustainable.
