Creating our region’s future

The vision of Mildura Development Corporation (MDC) is ‘creating our region’s future’, and since becoming an independent incorporated entity in April 2009, it has made major inroads into achieving this vision.

As the peak economic development organisation for the Mildura region, MDC operates at the macro strategic industry level rather than at a micro single business level, creating and developing positive, commercially viable climates for regional business and enterprise to capitalise upon.

Before becoming an independent entity, MDC was known as Sunraysia Mallee Economic Development Board (SMEDB) – a Section 86 Committee of Mildura Rural City Council.

SMEDB was funded by all businesses and enterprises in the municipality of Mildura Rural City through contributions to the economic development differential rate and by grants received from the State and Federal Government. Mildura Development Corporation continues to be funded in the same way, while maintaining its independent status from Mildura Rural City Council.

Mildura Development Corporation’s Board of Directors comprises nine business and industry leaders from the local region, and the office has four staff members. Some of the innovative projects MDC has undertaken include the following.

2009 Mildura Region
Economic Profile

The profile contains important data and information on the Mildura region’s economy, people and industries.  This publication is a very valuable resource for business, industry, Government departments, industry associations, education institutes, the not for profit sector, students and individuals.

Business Events Calendar

Mildura Development Corporation has an online events calendar for business and industry events. It lists events organised by numerous organisations including industry associations, Government departments, education providers and not for profit groups. A listing of these events is emailed out to over 600 businesses on a weekly basis.

Wine, Beverage and Olive Industry Workforce Development Strategy

Funded by a grant from Workforce Victoria (Department of Industry, Innovation and Regional Development), this strategy addresses the workforce and retention issues within the wine, olive and beverage industries.

Towards a Greener
Mildura Project

MDC received a grant from the Department of Sustainability and Environment to ascertain a base energy audit for energy efficient practices in the wine and processing industries.

Innovative and Sustainable Manufacturing Project

Funded by Enterprise Connect, this project is focused on encouraging networking, innovation and sustainability with the Mildura region’s manufacturing sector.
