Mildura Rural City

Situated in North West Victoria, Mildura Rural City covers almost ten per cent of the state’s area. The region’s landscape ranges from precious Mallee vegetation to broad acre grain properties, intensive horticultural farms and vibrant towns.

The beautiful Murray River winds its way through much of the municipality and is a focal point for visitors and the some 53,000 people who call the region home.

Mildura Rural City’s strength lies in its diversity and the range of communities that make up the municipality. Each has its own individual identity and heritage while wide open spaces, clear skies and friendly locals are assured wherever you are.

Traditionally a hub for horticultural production, the region’s economy has diversified and expanded over the years to include industries such as manufacturing, tourism and retail.

More recently the municipality has attracted
considerable interest from the renewable energy sector with solar power generation set to become a major player in the local economy.

Employing some 687 staff, Mildura Rural City Council’s 2010/11 Budget of $112.46 million includes a $35 million capital works program.

The organisation has prioritised cost savings where possible to alleviate economic pressure on ratepayers without compromising the level of service delivery the community expects and needs.

Council prides itself on delivering a range of innovative programs to foster the social and economic sustainability of its region as it moves forward.
