Airport gateway service to welcome visitors to Launceston

Launceston City Council’s visitor information and booking service at the Launceston Airport has assisted almost 5,000 people with their enquiries about travel needs, from transport and sightseeing, to accommodation and maps.

The Airport Visitor Gateway Service was opened late in 2009 to coincide with the airport’s redevelopment and is managed by Council’s Launceston Travel and Information Centre staff seven days a week.

“This service enables people to find out information about what they can see and do in Launceston as soon as they land in our city, and then book many aspects of their trip,” said Launceston General Manager Robert Dobrzynski.

“Visitors have the advantage of getting local advice and information to make sure their Tassie trip is memorable.”

The Airport Gateway Service is part of a suite of Launceston City Council initiatives that will attract more visitors and improve their experience.

Other initiatives include a new online booking system and upgraded web presence, upgrade of visitor signage throughout the city and a free explorer bus servicing the central city and key attractions.

The revamped website is a one stop travel shop, enabling people to book accommodation, tours and car hire.

“This will help to further enhance our local tourism industry, which currently contributes $220 million to the Launceston Tamar Valley economy,” Robert Dobrzynski said.
