Bayside City Council was this year named Victoria’s leading Council for investing in environmentally sustainable products.
Bayside was announced the winner of the Local Government Recycled Champion Award at the 2010 ECO-Buy Awards in May. The awards recognise leading organisations in environmental purchasing and utilisation of recycled materials.
Council uses recycled paper, rainwater tanks and reused mulch for Bayside parks and gardens, while thousands of its new residents are supplied with recycling and waste bins that are made from recycled plastic milk bottles.
The largest investment – using recycled crushed rock and asphalt for renewal of roads and footpaths in Bayside – was given a special mention at the ECO-Buy Awards.
ECO-Buy Limited is a not for profit Centre of Excellence in Environmental Purchasing that works with Local and State Governments and businesses to encourage purchasing of green products.
