Job seekers in Queensland’s Mackay region can now apply for a position at Mackay Regional Council online, in what is a seamless and more professional application process.
Council’s e-Recruitment system went live on 29 October with 19 vacancies posted, including the first intake of 13 traineeships and apprentices.
Finance Portfolio Councillor Darryl Camilleri said the new system is pivotal to improving Council’s staff recruitment practices.
“It will significantly reduce the administrative component of each application and provide tangible benefits to those seeking employment at Council,” he said.
Applicants are stepped through the application process and are unable to submit their application until all mandatory fields are completed. Once an application is submitted, an acknowledgement email is immediately provided.
Mackay’s Human Resources Manager Ray Harris said e-Recruitment will revolutionise the application process.
“Applicants can also create an online profile which allows them to track the status of their applications,” he said.
The employment and current vacancies page on Council’s website is constantly one of the top five most viewed pages.
“Most people are accessing job vacancies online and this further enhances our ability to gain a competitive advantage in the market place,” Ray Harris said. “It also reinforces Council’s move towards a ‘paperless office’. There is really no need to lodge a printed application or resume when applying for a council position.”
