Animal shelter houses City of Sydney and Sutherland Shire cats and dogs

Sutherland Shire Council last year struck an agreement with the space constrained, City of Sydney, to take its lost and abandoned animals at the Shire’s Taren Point Animal Shelter.

Under the arrangement, the 30 year old shelter underwent a major upgrade, partly funded by the City of Sydney.

Three staff and more than 25 volunteers are responsible for caring for lost and abandoned animals at the shelter.

Sutherland Shire Council has a ten year agreement with the City of Sydney to take and re-home the city’s animals.

The shelter is one of the few in NSW with a low-kill policy, meaning one of the lowest euthanasia rates in Australia.
