FrankstonTV to improve City image

In a bid to improve Frankston’s online image, a campaign has been launched encouraging locals to capture what they love about Frankston on video.

Frankston City Hall of Fame inductee and Channel Seven newsreader Peter Mitchell launched the new initiative on 4 March at Frankston High School, with a special FrankstonTV news broadcast prepared by Year 8 students.

FrankstonTV is an initiative to get proud locals filming what they love about their, and then broadcast it to the world.

The YouTube competition allows participants to shoot their video, upload it online and be viewed publicly on the video streaming site YouTube.

The most viewed entry will qualify to win the competition, with prizes including an iPod, video camera and the opportunity to spend the day with Blake ëBilko’ Williams from daredevil group, the Crusty Demons.

Entrants are encouraged to capture their favourite aspects of Frankston, such as the coastline, arts and culture, natural reserves, festivals and shopping.

Deputy Mayor Councillor Sandra Mayer said that at the moment, when you perform a search for ëFrankston’ on YouTube, there are dozens of videos that portray the City in a negative light.

“FrankstonTV allows proud Frankstonians the opportunity to do their bit for Frankston’s image,” she said. “By entering the competition, residents are helping to overwhelm the negative videos about Frankston on YouTube, replacing them with their own content featuring their favourite aspects of Frankston.”

Council approves the entries before posting them to the FrankstonTV YouTube channel at www.youtube.com/frankstontv
