Leading the way in tropical design
From the pattern of the city streets to the intricate details of balustrades and window dressing, the distinctive style of Tropical North Queensland is clearly reflected in Cairns Regional Council’s new Cairns Style Design Guide.
Created to retain and enhance the city’s unique character, the Guide describes – in words, pictures and diagrams – the tropical style that is the desired design direction for the City of Cairns.
‘Cairns Style’ is a broad concept ranging from the overall pattern and rhythm of streets to the detail of window awnings and balustrades. Serving as a reference for developers, home owners and Council when considering creating or renovating living spaces and buildings – from minor building renovations in the suburbs to new commercial projects in the city centre – the Guide aims to ensure that the distinctive tropical look and feel of Cairns is enhanced and preserved.
