The ideas and vision for residents for local streetscapes will be a key part of the focus of a new Maranoa Placemaking Project. Mayor Robert Loughnan said Council is focusing on improvements to streetscapes in its towns over the next decade including Roma, Mitchell, Surat, Injune and Yuleba.
"The desire for improvement in presentation of our local communities was identified through community consultation through the Maranoa Community Plan," he said.
"Each of our communities has a vision for lively, harmonious and safe streetscapes for their towns and we want to capture these ideas to create Placemaking Design Plans, which will give long term direction for beautification of our region. We want to know how people see their town’s future streetscape and public places – whether it’s new pavement, walking trails, street plantings, furniture, public art or signage."
Maranoa Regional Council is located in south west Queensland.
It covers an area of 58,830 square kilometres and has a population of almost 13,500 people.
Consultant designers PLACE Design Group are working with Council’s Community Development Coordinators and community members to create Placemaking Design Plans for communities within the Maranoa.
