Taree Recreation Centre Project recognised

Greater Taree City Council has been acknowledged for engineering excellence for its recent upgrade of the Taree Regional Recreation Centre. Council competed against 151 other Local Governments for the prestigious IPWEA NSW 2011 Engineering Excellence Awards and was recently announced the winner for the design and construction of a Local Government Public Works project.

Greater Taree Acting Mayor David West said that this award is a well deserved one for staff who had worked tirelessly from the initial funding application to the delivery of works on the ground to ensure this project was a success.

“Not only a success in terms of the infrastructure improvements but the way this project was delivered as a partnership between Council, the local sporting user groups and local trades suppliers,” Councillor West said.

Chair of Greater Taree City Council’s Sport and Recreation Committee, Councillor Alan Tickle added that the project’s success and the award recognition is a result of a tremendous team effort.

“It was a fantastic effort, in particular from Council’s project manager Robert Baker,” he said. “His liaison with the Taree Regional Recreation Grounds Management Committee to produce a management plan, the decisive action of Council staff in pursuing the Federal funding when it became available, the wonderful on the ground contribution of the various sports groups, contractors as well as our own parks and trades staff, has resulted in a facility that is the envy of many other towns and cities.

“It opens up plenty of opportunities for local sports groups to pursue the hosting of events which will be of benefit to the whole community.”

The project has delivered the following improvements:
