Coffs Harbour City Council Trainee Dallas Gittins has been named as this year’s New South Wales winner of the Business Services Award.Dallas, who works in Council’s Rates Section as a Trainee Water Billing Officer, will now be up against more than 40 of the brightest and best trainees from across NSW for the ultimate accolade of NSW Group Training’s Trainee and Apprentice of the Year.
Her manager, Jay Kirkman, wasn’t at all surprised that Dallas won this prestigious award in her category.
“From the beginning, she impressed everyone with her dedication to her role and willingness to learn on the job and take on extra responsibilities,” Jay Kirkman said.
“I know that if I need something done right and on time, I can ask Dallas to get the job done. She is a real asset to our section and has become a key member of the team. We’ve all got our fingers crossed for her to win the top title.”
A Coffs Harbour local, Dallas is employed by Group Training company NovaSkill and has been working at Council since April 2010 on a two year traineeship.
“I really enjoy working at Council,” she said. “I’ve learnt a lot and it’s given me a whole new perspective on the work that the organisation does.
“Winning the Business Services Award was a surprise, but has given me a real confidence boost and it’s nice to know that I have the support of my colleagues.”
Finalists in the NSW Group Training Awards undergo a rigorous selection process that focuses on their skills development, training results, team work and leadership skills.
NovaSkill Regional Manager Rob Scott said everyone who has made it into the finals of these Awards should be congratulated.
“To reach this stage is wonderful recognition for these young apprentices and trainees,” he said. “The finalists in these Awards will no doubt continue to achieve excellence in their chosen field.”
